Karen Ann Myers & Tomomi Nitta at Montgomery College’s King Street Gallery Silver Spring, MD – March 19, 2015 / – Montgomery College’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts presents Presence: Works by Karen Ann Myers and Tomomi Nitta at the King Street Gallery. The exhibit opens April 1st with a reception April 2nd from 6-8 p.m. Cory Oberndorfer,D.C. artist and Montgomery College adjunct faculty member, curates the exhibit. Presence, curated by Cory Oberndorfer, presents work by Tomomi Nitta and Karen Ann Myers. These figure painters consider the physical and emotional presence of the human figure. Tomomi Nitta’s paintings are based on the “infinite set”-the vast numbers of cells that are born and die to support our life. Tomomi studied at Tama University the Corcoran College of Art and Design. Based in Bethesda, Maryland, she exhibits in Tokyo, Japan and D.C. Karen Ann Myers creates a vulnerable narrative in her paintings, where young women mimic the textile shapes surrounding them. She received her MFA from Boston University. Karen serves as the associate director at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art. She lives in Charleston, South Carolina and exhibits nationally. Presence runs April 1-May 9, 2015 at the King Street Gallery. A reception will be held Thursday, April 2th from 6-8p.m. The event is located at the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation Arts Center. About The King Street Gallery:
The King Street Gallery’s exhibitions compliment the academic programs of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts while bringing art to the community. As part of the Silver Spring arts community, exhibitions focus on current pieces by working artists. The gallery is on the ground floor of The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation Arts Center on the west side of the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. The center is located off of Georgia Avenue at 930 King Street. Parking is available in the West Campus Garage, located immediately behind the center.
