The Hanging Gardens originally referred to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, a legendary structure built in ancient Greece using advanced ancient technology, is one of the seven wonders of the world. Reportedly created to comfort a queen who was reluctant to marry into a desert country, the garden, with its tiered landscaped gardens, would have been a creation that would have quickly decayed and returned to the desert if not constantly watered and cared for.  In 2016, when the exhibition, \u201cHanging Gardens,\u201d was held, Singapore celebrated the 50th anniversary of national foundation. The country has gardens as \"green lungs,\" systematically planted in densely built cities. In 1967, then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew launched the \"Garden City\" initiative. This was a political message to create an image and raison d'etre for the new city-state, and to express it domestically and internationally. Thereafter, Singapore, rationally planned and developed, attracted capital and people from all over the world, and achieved rapid development.  Singapore is located on a small island at the tip of the Malaysian peninsula. Geopolitically, it is difficult to survive without constant creative and active efforts. This reality and the meticulously planned, constructed and then prosperously flourishing state of nation reminded me of the Hanging Gardens.  However, our existence is also like the Hanging Gardens. It is maintained by a constant immune system that keeps us separated from the outside world, by the intake of water and food, and by the repetition of metabolism through the life and death of a vast number of cells and symbiotic organisms. As soon as these activities cease, we die and return to matter. While placing itself in the unique process of life activity, it is a being that continues to construct its own meaning and purpose for its own existence."}
